A Loner In The Crowd
(J. Pouyadou)Well now you're gone again
I'm wandering the city streets
The whores at a bargain
And the cops on their beats
The wind is way too cold
And I'm feeling way too old
To stand the kids on the juice
And the junkies on the loose
And the barroom lights
And the silly cock fights
They don't mean that much to me
But I know for sure they just won't let me be
So I step into the nearest bar
Where somebody plays slide guitar
Though the music is loud
For a loner in the crowd
The girl behind the counter
Is friendly as a prison gate
Well it makes sense 'cause she's
Probably jailbait
The band is good enough
And the guitar player knows her stuff
So I step closer to the stage
Where the singer shouts with rage
And while the drunkards all keep yelling at them
To get the fuck away or stick to rock'n'roll
I think of those foregone years
When we used to dig the noisy bands
But now the music sounds way too loud
For a loner in the crowd
I take another shot
And gaze at the dirty river
But now there is that girl
Standing in the corner
A pair of ragged jeans
And a kind of nasty shiver
Well she's still looking good
For a heavy, heavy doper
And as the band starts playing and the leader says
Next one's about a girl who's caught me in her maze
I know it's bound, bound to last too long
So I give the bouncer the old hand sign
Flee from the smell of smokes and wine
And from the music too loud for a loner in the crowd
